The Import of New Lead Acid Batteries is regulated as per the  Batteries (Management & Handling) Amendment Rules, 2001 and amendments thereof. These Rules (CBCP Battery Rules) shall apply to every Importer involved in the manufacture, processing, sale, purchase, import and use of batteries or components thereof. In India, batteries are mainly imported from China, Japan, and South Korea. 

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF & CC) grants the mandatory registration / NOC to the importers for New Lead Acid Batteries and the monitoring of import lies with relevant State Pollution Boards.

Renewal and Suspension



Further renewal of battery import registration is required after every 5 years which will depend upon fulfillment of certain conditions & compliances 

Suspension or cancellation of registration can also be done by the relevant Department if the prescribed conditions are not followed
